Il Modicano is an independent vegan company, based in Sicily, that makes all their range (chocolate bars, spreads and hot chocolate) with the highest quality organic ingredients, while also guaranteeing the absence of any traces of animal products and gluten.
All chocolate bars made by Il Modicano are packaged in Shiro Echo, which is an ecologic cardboard made of recycled paper and cardboard using renewable energy, which is also biodegradable and certified FSC.
Chocolate of Modica
Is a roughly ground chocolate; in the past it was ground by a smooth round stone called “metate“. Mostly, it is a minimally processed chocolate, characterised by an ancient and original Aztec traditional recipe which preserves the sugar crystals that gives the chocolate its peculiar grainy texture and aromatic flavour. Since XVI century, generations of families have followed the same techniques, blending the cocoa mass with sugar at low temperatures, which brings to the chocolate its distinctive crunchy texture.
